How to Honor Your Coffee
Coffee is something that most enjoy--but what about when it goes bad and we cannot drink it anymore? We all have to let go of coffee eventually, similarly to how we eventually have to let go of those we love. But, humans generally want to honor those they have lost, most commonly found in a memorial of sorts.
If done in a thoughtful manner, why not do the same with coffee?
After an extremely detailed Google search of "what do people do to honor old coffee," I came across an article that listed off ways to use old coffee beans (found here). My personal favorites of those 13 techniques included making desserts, coffee ice cubes, and skin exfoliate.
To utilize old coffee beans to make desserts, anything that is coffee-flavored would be the best to create. For example, the article uses the examples of "tiramisu, coffee cake, coffee ice cream" (Bean & Bean). To make these treats in the most efficient way, a recipe (found online) would be the most easy option.

The last option out of my favorite ways to use coffee beans is by making a skin exfoliate. This is made by mixing water and sugar in with the coffee beans. Although the exfoliate can be used on skin, it should not be used directly on the face, as it can cause skin damage, but it can be used on the rest of your body.
By honoring your old coffee beans, you are thinking about different ways you can think about something you have lost: fresh coffee. Memorials, as aforementioned, often use symbolism to convey what someone/something was like, and by creating different things with old coffee beans, you are essentially making a memorial!

The connection you made between old coffee beans and memorials was actually really interesting and creative. I like the way you organized your paragraphs making sure to give multiple uses and explanations. Also I never knew that you could use coffee beans for skincare!
ReplyDeleteOld coffee beans are kind of sad because they don’t taste very good anymore. If you had to make a memorial for good coffee beans, what would you do? I would personally make a giant coffee bean that you can go inside and get coffee from, it would essentially be a coffee shop inside of a giant coffee bean (which isn’t very original but is Instagramable… so I’ll count it as a win).
ReplyDeleteI’ve never considered that making something out of an old ingredient could be like a memorial. I think that’s a really interesting concept. I should take my old homework and burn it and put all the ashes into a pot and grow a flower out of it and I’ll call it the memorial of “Growing Pain”.
(Also fair warning using a coffee bean scrub can be really bad for your skin, it’s really rough so it can scratch your skin and cause it to get red and scratchy, stick to chemical exfoliators they’re much better for you) (Don’t think too deeply about the contents of this comment… I *reallyyyyyy* didn’t ㅇㅅㅇ)
I really like how creative your idea of connecting the memorial topic with coffee is, and I like how you gave the simpler ways to remember coffee since they're more compatible with everyday life as well as not making it something too impactful :)
