The Captivating Carraway

"So you're telling me your name is Nick Carraway, from the 1920s, and you've suddenly been transported to the 21st century? Is this a prank?"

"No! Now tell me how to get out of here!" Responded a petrified, so-called "Nick Carraway."

"Um." And then he ran away. Is it really customary for people in the 2000s to consistently scamper away from conversing? Is that really how society progresses? Well, if so, Nick doesn't want to be part of it (if he lived a regular life he wouldn't have been! But being friends with a certain "great" Gatsby comes with its downsides).

You might be thinking What a predicament! What a predicament, indeed. To be someone from the Roaring '20s placed into the year 2023! What an absurd thought--only things like that happen in movies! But you've yet to hear Nick's side of the story.

It all began the day Nick revisited Gatsby's house before moving back to his old estate in Minnesota. Its bare state without its owner looked almost horrifying. A once lit-up amusement turned into a terror from an apocalyptic alternate dimension. Now, Nick had once gone to war, but nothing could compare to the fright that a simple empty house could give him. But being surprised with a house doesn't mean he's not going to walk in. What an entirely wrong idea.

Upon entering Gatsby's house, he also entered his doom: the 21st century (more specifically, 2023). Of course, Nick being from the 1920s, he didn't recognize this change immediately, but he was a little (read: very) confused on why he woke up in a t-shirt and jeans instead of the clothes he was just wearing.

  1. I loved the time-travel take, especially now that it’s just over 100 years since it was written. I hate the cliffhanger because now I actually want to know what he would do. Do you think he would do something earth-shattering, would he try to get back, or would he just go with the flow like he does in the book? Great job!

  2. I really liked how you chose to make Nick Carraway experience the present. I think it is cool how you chose to discuss the estate in Minnesota over one hundred years later. Also, the end?! The fans need a part two to this blog post.
